SUMMER LEAGUE DARTS SINGLES
With the two venues this year not being well attended, 31 out of 68 which was very poor for this blue ribbon event. With Marcho and Denmark(current holder) playing at The Crown , Marcho went on first playing Vic Sexton and went one down in a scrappy first leg. Marcho looking to redeem himself played better of the two and on 196 threw a 180 leaving 16 with Vic still in the 300’s looked good but 18 darts later lost still on double 8 , out you go then. Denmark had better luck and made it to the final and played Ammo. With Ammo throwing 3 x 140 with his first nine darts things did not look good for Denmark, but alas his finishing deserted him and Denmark sneaked it. In the second leg Denmark took it to Ammo and with a great aplomb beat Ammo 2-0. Over at The Bridge Zorro,Sav ,and Gaz played. With Zorro and Sav drawing each other in the ¼ finals it was Sav who went on to win 2-1.Sav then went on to play Gaz in the semi’s and demolished the big man 2-1.With Sav confidently getting to the final he was knocked back to earth by Andy Sexton 2-1 setting up a final showdown on finals night with Denmark, good luck to them both.

MENS PAIRS
22 September 2011
The pairs tournament was split into two with the Crown represented by Saveloy and Zorro in the Cinque Ports and Cyclops and Marcho in the Engineer. The winning pair from each pub play the final on 04 November
Cinque Ports Pub, Seaford
Round 1: Saveloy & Zorro v K. Easton & Landlord (Black Harts)
Saveloy started strong hitting many tons and finishing both legs with one dart at doubles to knock out the strong Black Hart Pub pairing. Won 2-0
Round 2: Saveloy & Zorro v Babyface & Zorro’s old mate! (White Hart)
Superb scoring by Sav and Zorro should have led to both legs being finished in 18 darts. However, incredibly poor finishing almost led the legs being lost. Sav and Zorro finally hit a double each to go through. Won 2-0
Semi-Final: Saveloy & Zorro v J. Hillier & M. Tracy (White Lion)
A tidy 1st leg by the Crown pair was quickly finished by Sav. In the 2nd, M. Tracy banged in a 180 to put the pressure on, but the White Lion were unable to finish. Zorro checked out 5 to put the Crown in the final and then he celebrated with a monster sized sausage & chip sarnie. Won 2-0
Final: Saveloy & Zorro v J. Davis & A. Hart (White Lion)
The Crown pair came into the final as underdogs. J. Davis & A. Hart are Sussex County B regulars and had earlier knocked out the favourites, County A pair Ammo & Woolgar. Zorro, fully charged up after monster sarnies and bar snacks! Had a storming 1stleg finishing off 25 to give the Crown the lead. Scrappy scoring by both pairs in the 2nd leg was ended when A. Hart missed a handful at 40, then Saveloy stepped up to check out 46 and a win for the Crown. Won 2-0
Saveloy & Zorro face Engineer duo Stiffy & Loverton (Engineer A) in the overall pairs final on 04 November 2011.
Round 1 BYE – As it would turn out probably Marcho’s finest hour this evening.
Round 2 – Time to take on two generations of the Smarts in Bimbo & Gary. These games are never easy so the Crown pair went into it not underestimating their opponents. This view however was soon to change when on his 2nd visit to the board Bimbo’s first dart bounced out & his next two went in the board below the double 19 scoring zero!! With fluctuating scoring Cyclops left Marcho the landlords double he took 40 out with ease.
The downside to Marcho’s finish in the first leg was that he proceeded to play as though his arm had turned to jelly in the second. Luckily he found a decent shot to lay Cyclops up with a one dart finish & that was duly despatched. Won 2 – 0
Semi final - This drew the Crown pair against the venue favourites in Andy “Stiffy” Sexton & Lee “loveaton” Overton. The Engineer sailed into a 1 leg lead with the Crown just chasing shadows so now they were right up against it. In the second leg Marcho & Cyclops steadied the ship a bit but were still finding the game a bit tough. Missed doubles from both sides allowed Cyclops a shot at double 5 which was accepted & put the match into the deciding leg. The Engineer out scored the Crown pair but they done enough so that Marcho stepped up to take the glory with 86 left. With the Engineer sat on a double there was no room for error, glory awaited the new slim line Crown landlord. He threw a very straight single 20, the pub all turned their heads to the 16 section of the board. Could he throw another straight dart to set up a bulls eye finish & glory. The pub heard the thud of tungsten on bristle but unfortunately for the Crown it was on the opposite side of the board in single 6. Another single 20 left Cyclops 40 but alas a double he would never get a shot at as the Engineer duo wrapped up the match. Lost 1 – 2
A fine effort from The Crown but no cigar for them this year.
THE ENGINEER A v CROWN SPORTS BAR
15 September 2011
SINGLES
1) Denmark v Andy Sexton: Won 2-1
This was a difficult game to call with both men equally matched. Denmark pulled out a 135 and 140 to put himself top of the Crown team in the 133 league. However, Andy pegged him back to take it into a decider. The final leg was a shockingly bad show by the super league veterans with both having about 12 darts each at D1. Denmark finally took it to give the Crown the lead.
2) Marcho v Darren Woolgar: Lost 0-2
Marcho again underestimating his abilities wasn’t feeling confident against the Sussex County star. However, yet again he proved he is able to keep up with the scoring power of the leagues better players, but just can’t finish like them! After going one down, Marcho had D5 left in the 2nd leg which he narrowly missed and hit double top instead. Unfortunately, Darren finished straight after to win the tie.
3) Zorro v Ammo: Lost 1-2
As Ammo managed to break a dart in practice, this tie had potential for an upset. However, Ammo’s class still showed through to take the first leg. Zorro, looking like he just walked off Miami Beach sporting Don Johnson style white flannel trousers, wasn’t going down lightly as he finished quick in the 2nd leg with Ammo struggling to hit doubles with the spare darts. Then Zorro hit a 140 and sped into a nice lead in the decider. His only downfall was when the smell of the BBQ ribs became too much of a distraction enabling Ammo to catch up and take the game. Although he couldn’t finish in the deciding leg, Zorro managed to finish off the BBQ ribs with ease.
4) Cyclops v Lee Overton: Won 2-0
Although his opponent had the ideal nickname, it was Cyclops who was lover ton here with a straight forward win including a 17 dart 1st leg. No 140’s for Gaz though! which leaves him one behind Denmark in the 133 league with one game remaining.
5) Saveloy v Damage: Won 2-1
A steady start by Saveloy wasn’t enough to take the first leg as his opponent finished straight away. A 140 and a smooth 76 finish by Saveloy levelled the game. Another 140 in the final leg and a quick finish gave Saveloy a much needed win and a 3-2 lead for the Crown after the singles.
DOUBLES
Saveloy & Cyclops v Ammo & Darren Woolgar: Lost 0-2
Excellent scoring by the Crown pair initially was ruined with Saveloy’s attempt to brag in the match report. With the opponents not on a finish and 115 left, Saveloy hit 5 then 60 and to Cyclops dismay took on the bull instead of laying it up, although it was only just missed!! to leave 25. This tricky number stumped the Crown pair allowing their opponents to catch up and finish. The engineer pair didn’t mess around in the 2nd leg to tie the match at 3-3.
TREBLES
Cyclops, Denmark & Zorro v Ammo, Andy Sexton & Lee Overton: Lost 0-2
The highest quality game of the night. The Crown scored well but the Engineer excelled by hitting ton plus scores almost every visit to give them the lead 4-3.
GALLON: Lost
Marcho stood out for the Crown by hitting a total of 301 points from his three visits to the oche, a 33.44 per dart average! Unfortunately Marcho’s heroics weren’t enough to salvage a draw for the Crown as Darren Woolgar impressively checked out an 80 finish to secure the win for the Engineer.
LOST 3-5
CROWN SPORTS BAR V TREVOR ARMS
A tough game for the Crown playing the undefeated league leaders. Which was made even more difficult when Denmark had to leave after the first game leaving the captaincy to Saveloy.
SINGLES
1) Denmark v Barry Wickens: Won 2-0
Not the best start by either player, but the 1st leg was quickly finished by the captain. Then Denmark turned it on in the 2nd with a 140 and more quick finishing, before signing off for the night.
2) Zorro v Dan Inman: Lost 0-2
Zorro waltzed in late complete with flip flops and looking very casual after sweating with a load of men down the road. Obviously he was a bit too casual though as after taking a fine lead he ended up going for D19 with 34 left which didn’t end well giving his opponent time to go 1-nil up. D17 was obviously still on his mind in the 2nd leg which was easily won by his opponent.
3) Marcho v Aaron Davis: Lost 0-2
Although slightly apprehensive at first, Marcho strode into the lead. Unfortunately, the nerves kicked in when finishing, which is a trait that for certain players has been their and the Crowns downfall this season. The effect of not winning the 1st leg showed on Marcho who just couldn’t get going in the 2ndleg to go down 2-nil.
4) Cyclops v Steve Knight: Won 2-0
Still on a high from capturing the Sussex Super League team championship the night before in dramatic style, Cyclops was in devastating form for the second week running. With a 140 score and a sensational 156 finish, which is likely to be the highest finish of the season, Cyclops gave his opponent no chance. Cyclops now also leads the Crown team on the 133 table to his sheer delight!
5) Saveloy v Steve Reed: Lost 0-2
Saveloy managed to keep close to the scoring power of Reedy in the first leg and just missed a 129 finish. However, the 1-dart finishing in both legs by Reedy was enough to put the temporary captain in his place.
DOUBLES
Saveloy & Zorro v Aaron Davis & Steve Reed: Lost 0-2
A practice game for Sav & Zorro before the forthcoming doubles competition did not go to plan! In the words of Zorro ‘both played so pony they could have been donkeys’ pretty much sums up how easily they lost against strong opponents. I don’t think the doubles trophy is returning to the Crown anytime soon looking at this performance.
TREBLES
Cyclops, Hoadey & Marcho v D. Inman, B. Wickens & C. Knight: Won 2-0
Pretty standard scoring from all involved. The sharp finishing from Cyclops proved the difference between the teams as the trio kept the Crown in the tie.
GALLON: Won
In the must win gallon for the Crown, scoring from all was pretty average. With Reedy missing doubles for the first time of the night, it was all down to chalker/vice-captain/score sheet delivery boy Saveloy with 80 left. A beautifully placed 5 left 75 which was taken out with a semi-Bull then Bull which stunned the whole pub. A great way to draw the game with arguably the best finish of the night, if not the season!! Aye Gaz!
DRAW 4-4 (After excellent tactical awareness from the vice captain)
SHIP B V CROWN SPORTS BAR SINGLES
1) Saveloy v Ray Gay: Won 2-0 With 3 teams chasing him during the
transfer window for someunknown reason, the in-demand Saveloy
just about remained composed to win a comfortable 1st leg and
scrappy 2nd to take the opener.
2) Marcho v Chris “Slasher” Harris: Lost 1-2 Playing like he
does in practice Marcho stormed into a 1-0 lead.
However, his form deserted him in the 2nd and 3rd legs when
he not only managed to miss trebles and doubles but on
occasion the board as well. In the end it was a revenge win
for the “Slasher”.
3) Zorro v Matt Walton: Lost 0-2 Rugby superstar and barmaids
favourite Zorro had the bogeydraw of the night and was
unable to keep up with the inform county star.
4) Denmark v Gary Smart: Won 2-1 A tough game for the skipper
especially after going 1-nil down.
However, Sim yet again showed that he is not easy to beat on a Thursday
night and impressively turned the tie around.
5) Cyclops v Bimbo Smart: Won 2-0 After his recent demolition
of PDC star Adrian Gray, Gaz showed he was back to form
with sublime scoring and a 16-dart 2nd leg to give his
opponent no chance.
DOUBLES Cyclops & Saveloy v Matt & Gary: Won 2-0 Gaz carried on the
heavy scoring and Saveloy was unusually confident and not
overheating under the wing of the big man. Sav checked out
75 and chipped in with some handy scores for Gaz to close out
the match on D16 against strong opponents.
TREBLES Denmark, Marcho & Zorro v Chris, Ray & Bimbo:
Won 2-1 Easily lost the 1st leg then easily won the 2nd. Then in a
tight 3rd leg,Marcho turned it on exhibition style to finish
32 with an 8, D9 & D3to secure the win for the Crown.
GALLON Denmark, Saveloy, Marcho, Zorro & Hoadey: Lost
Scrappy scores by both teams, then Bimbo hit 171 on the 19’s to
give the Ship an edge. Ray Gay finished quickfor the win and revenge
for theteam who narrowly lost Gallon title to The Crown
last Summer Season. The Crown win 5 – 3.

CROWN SPORTS BAR V SHIP B
SINGLES
1) Marcho was drawn against new Sussex player Matt Walton so had his work cut out.
After being given a chance at a double in the first leg he took it in one dart.
The second leg was close with both players having shots at doubles but it was Marcho who hit his after both throwing consistent good high scores.
2) Savaloy v Julian “the fly” Kennedy. The first leg proved a bit of a struggle for both players but Sav came out on top.
Julian put in a 180 in the second leg but Sav played a very steady game & won for the teams 2nd good win.
3) Zorro v Gary Smart. Zorro didn’t turn up, he spent all game beating himself up which wasn’t really necessary as Gary done that for him on the board winning 2 – 0.
4) Cyclops v Chris “Slasher” Harris. Cyclops opened up with scores of 7 & 13 but somehow still managed to get a shot at a double, which he gloriously missed.
The rest of the team were almost as happy as Cyclops when normal service resumed & he claimed the next two legs.
5) Denmark v Bimbo Smart. Denmark gave the team a very competent captains performance to get a 2 – 0 win & a 4 – 1 lead for the team.
DOUBLES
Cyclops & Denmark v Matt & Julian. The Crown going for the kill backfired. The Crown duo won the first leg but after that everything went pear shaped.
Matt & Julian hit constant big scores whilst taking the next two legs.
TREBLES
Cyclops, Savaloy & Zorro v Chris, Gary & Bimbo. The Crown trio got smack 2 – 0, enough said really.
So after having a 4 – 1 lead it is now all down to the Gallon.
Denmark, Savaloy, Marcho, Zorro & JC started off a bit ropey but found good back to back scores in the middle of the match to give themselves about a 200 point lead.
With a two dart finish left things were looking rosy ……. 2 throws later it’s 5 left!!
Marcho tried to finish in style going double 1, single 1 But alas the last dart was outside.
Up steps JC ….. he throws one straight dart all game, BUT WHAT A TIME TO DO IT.
The Crown manage to take the win 5 – 3.
