CROWN SPORTS BAR 2ND DARTS OPEN
So the day that Marcho has been losing sleep over finally arrived the 2nd Seaford Darts Open held at The Crown Sports Bar, kindly sponsored by The Crown Sports Bar & Connelly’s.
With £450 of prize monies up for grabs everyone was hoping for a competitive field and we weren’t disappointed. With 15 current Sussex super league players, 11 of which are current Sussex county players, and people coming in from Eastbourne, Brighton, Burgess Hill & Surrey it was all set for a good day of darts.
There were two “no shows” so it was agreed That Nick Marchant & Michael Judd would play twice to avoid any byes. It was soon clear why these two were chosen as they lost 3 – 0 to Michael Hammond, Darren Woolgar, John Jenkins & Paul Russell respectively in the first round.
There were five other 3 – 0 wins in the first round for Andy Sexton v Phil Merchant, Gary Edgar v Phil Austin, Adam Hart v Chris Didicot, Jim Withers v Connor Beck, Mark Davis v Steve Way & Geoff Taylor v Dave Mills.
There were four 3 – 1 first round scorelines from Dave Harding v Ian Ditton, Steve Licence v Kevin Woodward, Matt Walton v Dennis Sains & Sid Perkins v Joe Davis. ChrisGoodband edged out Phil Innes 3 – 2 as did Mick Bridle over Chris Harris.
The second round started with teams mates Andy Sexton & Michael Hammond which Andy took 3 – 1. Next up was a Brighton battle between Mark Davis & Geoff Taylor with Mark coming out on top 3 – 2. Darren Woolgar beat Chris Goodband 3 – 0 as did Jim Withers against Adam Hart. Dave Harding edged out local Crown player Steve Licence 3 – 2 and in the very next game The Crowns interest in the competition was ended when Paul Russell beat Gary Edgar 3 – 1. The last two games of the round pitted Mick Bridle against John Jenkins which Mick took 3 – 1 & Matt Walton impressively beat ex PDC player Sid Perkins 3 – 0.
Onto the quarter finals & Andy Sexton was again drawn against a team mate Darren Woolgar again winning 3 – 1. Matt Walton couldn’t continue his form from the last round & lost 3 – 0 to Dave Harding. Mick Bridle won 3 – 1 against Sussex captain Paul Russell but the game of the round came when another ex PDC player Jim Withers played Mark Davis with Jim taking the match 3 – 2.
Onto the semi finals and a step up to the best of 7 legs.
The draw was Newhaven super league captain Andy Sexton and Dave Harding then Brighton’s Mick Bridle and Jim Withers. Both games ended with 4 – 1 wins for Andy & Jim.
So to the final and a best of 9 legs game. Both players were throwing well with nobody really getting the edge. That was until Andy missed 3 darts at a double in the 8th leg which left Jim to step up and take the 2nd Seaford Darts open 5 – 3.
The Crown would like to say a big thank to everyone you for turning up, taking part & making it a great day.
We hope you all enjoyed yourselves & feel it was a good success and are now looking forward to the 3rd Seaford Darts Open at the Crown Sports Bar.
